Major League
The most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball, recommended for 11 and 12-year-old players. Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. Features a 46' pitching distance and 60' base paths. Advanced base running rules are also in effect. This division includes a tournament trail from District competition through the World Series.
Majors Division is a competitive league focusing on developing advanced baseball skills. Each team consists of approximately 12 players and uses a continuous batting order. Every player must play a minimum of 2 innings in the field. Attending all practices is extremely important so players form a cohesive team and improve their individual & team skills.
Evaluation and Draft Process:
Parents are encouraged to inform Coastal Cape Baseball as to their child’s willingness to play in either Majors or Minors. Only those players willing and selected via a draft by Major Coaches will be selected and rostered on Major League Teams
- All 12-year-old players are required to play Major League
- Returning Major League players are automatically rostered to their previous season’s team
- Prospective Major Leaguers must attend the evaluations held each year in March. At these evaluations, player’s skills will be evaluated by experienced baseball evaluators who are Non-Major League Coaches
- The Major League draft pool is assembled from this evaluation and provided to each Major League Head Coach with players being selected to a team by the Coach until rosters are full. Siblings if selected are automatically placed on the same team
- All remaining players will enter the Minor League draft and will be selected to a team by the Coaching Staffs
